Standard Ocean Mapping Protocol (SOMP) Symposium

Day one of the SOMP Symposium, run by the United States National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Interagency Working Group (Ocean and Coastal Mapping), took place on the 7th October, from 2am AEST. Of the 14 speakers, AusSeabed Steering Committee Secretary, Aero Leplastrier, was the only international panellist, delivering a presentation on the Australian Multibeam Guidelines, published in July this year. Aero’s presentation introduced the Guidelines and how they were developed collaboratively, in consultation with the community. The Guidelines offer a useful resource to the United States as they begin development of their own Standard Ocean Mapping Protocols.
