Quality Assurance Tool

Another priority identified by the AusSeabed working group was to establish a Quality Assurance (QA) Tool. The purpose of the tool is to provide an automated workflow that checks Multibeam Echosounder (MBES) vessel surveys against a set of standard specifications. This project has three stages:

  1. A user needs research phase will involve research into user needs, technical specifications and investigation of workflows for MBES capture, as well as identifying and prioritising quality assurance checks for key raw data types. The outcome of this research will be a report on the user needs and will form the foundations for the later stages.
  2. QA development stage which will involve creating MBES specific quality checks and developing metrics to programmatically assess the quality of MBES products. This stage will also incorporate beta testing with specific partners.
  3. An integration phase will focus on aligning the QA tools with the AusSeabed survey coordination tool, and in doing so, supporting robust survey planning.

Stage 1 was completed in June 2019 with FrontierSI delivering the User Needs report. Stage 2 is underway, with the first beta testing to commence in the second half of 2020.
