Data Portal
The AusSeabed Marine Data Portal Geoscience Australia’s marine data discovery interface contains acoustic datasets such as bathymetry, backscatter and sidescan sonar data and other marine-related products. This interface allows users to explore seafloor mapping products across Australia’s marine jurisdiction prior to downloading. The services presented here include data at both an individual survey acquisition level and as national-scale collated products (AusBathyTopo series compilations).
This portal provides access to:
Bathymetry Surveys – Survey Acquisitions collected by or provided to Geoscience Australia from government, academia, and private organisations including international organisations that traverse our EEZ.
Regional Compilations – various resolution compilations around the Australian region
AusBathyTopo Series Compilations – National and Regional Compilations at 30m, 100m or 250m resolution
Seabed Sediments Collection - point data describing physical properties of marine sediments as held within the Geoscience Australia Marine Sediment database (MARS)
Survey Plans – Communicate planned mapping surveys to notify the seabed mapping community. This initiative aims to increase collaboration to optimise the use of national resources and seabed mapping efforts. It is hoped that with this knowledge, more collaborative surveys might be possible where surveys are extended or planned jointly to maximise survey time relative to transit. Information entered into the tool appears in the AusSeabed Data Portal.
Areas of Interest – Identify your organisation’s marine area of interest to raise awareness with the marine community and enhance efforts to increase collaborations. These areas of interest will help inform future prioritisation of national seabed mapping efforts. Information entered into the tool appears in the AusSeabed Data Portal.
HIPP Request submission – The Australian Hydrographic Office’s HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP) is the commercial acquisition program that undertakes focused hydrographic survey activities to support national charting priorities and safety of navigation. For more information, please visit The Australian Hydrographic Office.
AusSeabed Bathymetry Coverage - Current extent of bathymetry datasets held or known by AusSeabed. This dataset is live and will continue to be augmented as coverage is supplied from respective AusSeabed partners. Surveys have been conducted by a wide range of organisations and countries, both inside and outside of Australia's EEZ and for various purposes. Each polygon contains metadata describing the nature of data collection, including details of the survey, as well as the principal investigator of the project.
MH370 Phase 2 Data - 5m resolution tiles from Phase 2 marine surveys conducted by the Governments of Australia, Malaysia and the People's Republic of China for the search for Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 in the Indian Ocean.
MH370 Phase 1 Data - Tile SC48 (76 m Resolution) contains bathymetric data acquired from Phase 1 Marine Surveys (Geoscience Australia survey reference: GA-4421, GA-4422 & GA-4430) conducted by the Governments of Australia, Malaysia and the People Republic of China for the search of Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 in the Indian Ocean. This bathymetry data was acquired from June 2014 to February 2017 and processed by Geoscience Australia to 76 m resolution.
